One of those months?
I’ve been running around like crazy since the beginning of the month. Between work, kids, birthdays, dating, another trip to Atlanta for more modeling and searching for a new apartment things have been hectic to say the least.
Yesterday I went to my friend Christy’s apartment to paint her spare bedroom (her fiancee’s kids are going to be sharing the room) and it turned out to be quite the adventure. At first she had just planned on a simple paint job (no problem, that doesn’t take very long). By the time we got to Home Depot to get the paint she had decided she wanted to do something more than just plain walls… She wanted us to sponge paint the walls. I had never sponge painted walls before and I remembered that the few people I knew who HAD done that said it was harder than they thought it would be to get a nice effect. I was rather nervous about trying my hand at that on her walls. Then she decided that she wanted some wall stickers and we went looking through the wallpaper books. We found this really nice wall border that had a fun beach scene on it, with palm trees, cabanas, and a funky painted VW beetle. She decided that would be the perfect thing for the kid’s room. THEN she decided she wanted us to sponge paint the bottom of the room with colors that would match the sand and the top of the room with colors that would match the sky.
When we got home we started by taping around the room in the middle of where we would apply the border when it came in. Then I started painting each half of the wall with the appropriate base color and then we stopped so I could make us dinner – Turkey Tetrazzini *yum*. While our food was baking in the oven we mixed the two glaze colors for the sponge painting and got to work. It took a little while to get a ‘feel’ for the best way to do the sponging, but after a while I was having fun. We stopped long enough to eat dinner and then got back to work. We started the project at 3:00 in the afternoon and we were done with it by 10:00 in the evening, even with our break to make and eat dinner. We probably spent about 4 to 5 hours at most in actual time painting the room, which isn’t too bad considering the fact we were painting an 11 x 11 room and neither one of us had ever done sponge painting before. It looked good before I left, though it was late and it’s hard to tell until the paint has dried and you see the room by daylight if it really does look good. Christy told me this morning that it looks great. I get to see what it’s like tomorrow – I can hardly wait. If I like it a lot then I think I’ll do it in my bedroom once I move 🙂
Considering the fact I was painting most of Sunday afternoon I had a pretty good weekend. Friday I had my middle daughter over to spend the night. She and I went out shopping for her birthday (she’s 15 now!!) and then to dinner. Then Saturday night I got to spend time with my boyfriends kids while he went to an “adults only” Birthday party for his uncle. I think the kids and I had a better time than he did 🙂 I was really glad he asked me. I like his kids and I’ve been wanting to spend time with them so I can get to know them. I’m not sure what they think of me exactly, but I think they’re good kids.
I’m looking forward to taking a nice vacation… but I don’t know when I’ll be able to break free.
